Meet Maggie's fur baby Wolf: A big fluffy dog with a playful spirit and a heart of gold. Inspired by my daughter's lovable huskador, Wolf.

An excerpt from "Lavender Rain", Serenity Cove Sereis Book 3. Maggie meets Wolf for the first time. Logan saves Wolf after he is struck by a car and joyfully introduces him to Maggie.

Wolf finds his forever home, as narrated by Logan.

*Goldie is Sam's service dog.

The sweetness of Sam's smile caused a shift in my breathing. I climbed out and opened the passenger door for her and Goldie..

“We can walk to Rubi’s.” She pointed toward the diner.

“If you don’t mind tagging along, I’m following up on a case.”

“You're being mysterious..”

Minutes later, we knocked on the rear door of the vet’s office. Dr. Toria let us in, and I made proper introductions. “How’s the patient?”

Besides a fractured leg and being underweight, he’s in good shape. Dr. Toria led the way to his cage and opened the door. “I’ll call the shelter in Mariner Bay?”

“Oh, he’s gorgeous.” Sam reached inside the cage, stroking his back.

“What’s the procedure to adopt him?” I winked at Sam, still ruffling the dog’s fur, while keeping an eye on Goldie.

“Normal procedure is to wait in case someone claims him. He’s not chipped. He’s undernourished—finding abandoned animals at the cove is not unusual.” She paused as though struggling to make the right call. “Know someone who may be interested?”

Uttering a sigh, I crawled out on the proverbial shaky limb. “I’ll take him.”

Sam laughed and threw her arms around me. Goldie had her paws on the door to the cage. “Goldie’s trying to let him out.”

“Is he neutered?” I didn’t want to deal with pups.

Sam giggled, placing her hand on my arm. “They’d be adorable. But Goldie is spayed.”

“No problem. This one’s neutered. Will the dogs be together?” Her gaze bounced from Sam to me. “Just saying .…” Her laughter followed us as we left with two dogs in tow.

I texted Maggie. Two adults—two dogs for breakfast.

As we pulled into Maggie’s driveway, she jogged down the steps. “Two dogs? What’s going on?”

“Hold on, Sis.” I jogged to the passenger side and helped the Husky to keep him from hurting his injured leg. Sam followed the dogs to where Maggie waited.

“He’s something, isn’t he?” The excitement in her smile spoke volumes.

“He’s beautiful.” Maggie kneeled, hugging the dog while putting one hand on Goldie. “Is he yours? She glanced at her brother.

I winked at her. “He’s yours.”

Maggie and Sam both stared at me as amazement crept onto their faces.

Maggie threw her arms around me, her eyes sparkling like a child on Christmas morning. “He’s perfect. How did you know?”

“When you became Goldie’s Aunt Maggie.”

She lowered her chin, unable to hide her shy smile. “Breakfast is ready.”

Goldie waited at the top of the steps, tail wagging, for the Husky, his fluffy tail wagging, to limp onto the porch.

An hour later, we waved goodbye to Maggie and Wolf — the moniker she’d decided on.

“I think Goldie wanted to stay.” Samantha cuddled Goldie on her lap. “Did you see the expression on Maggie’s face?”

“I seldom put one over on her. She was speechless.”

Readers can’t help but feel The excitement and hope for the future that these moments bring.

Meet my daughter's Wolf: A big fluffy dog with a playful spirit and a heart of gold.

Wolf was my daughter’s joy and delight. Her family adored and doted on him. With his thick, fluffy fur that caught the sunlight, he had the most soulful eyes, one blue and one brown—a captivating blend of a Siberian Husky and a Labrador Retriever—a huskador. Wolf was not just a pet—he was a loyal companion, a big teddy bear with a heart as vast as the ocean.

Every morning, as the golden rays streamed through the windows, Wolf would bounce out of his cozy bed, his wagging tail welcoming the new day. He greeted each member with enthusiastic licks and joyful barks that echoed through the house. He loved going on morning walks, his energy infectious as he leaped and bounded along the path.

But what Wolf loved most was swimming. Although the family had a pool, he had his sights set on the expansive ocean, where he could dive into the waves, feeling the salt on his fur and the sand between his paws. His favorite was the weekends the family headed to the beach, where Wolf could fully embrace his passion.

One sunny Saturday, they arrived at the beach, and Wolf could hardly contain his excitement. His heart raced as he spotted the vast blue expanse ahead. With a joyful bark, he sprinted towards the water, happily splashing as he jumped through the waves. The children laughed and chased after him as their parents leaped in the waves with them.

As the day unfolded, Wolf played fetch with the kids, retrieving colorful Frisbees tossed into the surf and proudly bringing them back, soaked but beaming with pride. When the children were tired of running, they sat on the sand, and Wolf flopped beside them, his big, gentle head resting on their laps, his eyes shining with love and warmth, bringing a sense of joy and upliftment to the children.

At one point, another family arrived at the beach, their two small dogs timidly hiding behind their owners. Sensing their hesitation, Wolf, ever the charmer, wandered over with a wagging tail and a friendly bark. He gently approached the little dogs, inviting them to join the fun. Before long, laughter filled the air again as Wolf and his new friends raced across the shoreline, splashing in the water and rolling in the sand.

As the sun began to set, painting the sky with hues of orange and pink, Wolf lay on the beach, surrounded by his family and newly made friends. They shared stories and laughter, with Wolf’s big, fluffy head resting comfortably on a child’s lap. The ocean breeze ruffled his fur, and he sighed contentedly, feeling the love and joy of the moment.

That day, Wolf became a unifying force, bringing together not just his family but also strangers, all drawn into the warmth of his joyful spirit. As they packed up to head home, the children delighted in recounting their beloved dog’s adventures that day. Wolf wagged his tail in agreement, his heart full, knowing that tomorrow would bring even more fun and memories.

From that day on, Wolf became a beloved figure at the beach, a charming canine ambassador who showed everyone that life was best enjoyed when shared with friends—both old and new. In his kind-hearted way, he taught lessons of love, joy, and the importance of community, inspiring everyone around him and making every day brighter just by being himself. And so, the adventures of Wolf continued a true family companion, a playful spirit with a heart of gold.
